There’s a new cook in town!

Alert the media…Jess helped make dinner!  This is the first time she has successfully made a complete dish, one-pot spaghetti!  Of course,  I have tried to get her to help me in the kitchen, but Jess had trouble staying to task. As much as she loves food, she could not maintain her attention. Cooking is not fun if you can’t hold a spoon. She would give up  before she had even started.

The last three years, we returned to the basics;  building blocks, therapy putty, holding plastic string and pulling it till it broke, and my favorite, using a coin operated gumball machine. Her hard work has finally paid off. Jess’s fine motor improved and hand strength increased.

As we made the pasta, Jess was able to use a hand operated can opener, opened and poured a box of pasta and poured and measured liquid.  I was excited to see Jess complete these tasks with very little help from me. I think, this was one of the best meals we have had in a long time. Nothing tastes better than sweet success!

The added bonus…. Jess saw the clean silverware in the dishwasher and automatically started putting it away.  I think she is on to something!

It tasted very good, and she was very proud.

She now shows me she can do this, so now she will get to cook more 🙂
