There’s a meme of the girl in the Hunger Games with her hand raised, “when I spot another special needs Mom”.
Yes, I know how this feels!
This got me to thinking, why don’t we have our own universal sign?
What simple gesture could possibly convey that you are my people? The Girl Scout salute, is brilliant, but would attract too much attention. Smiling at another parent doesn’t convey enough. The Vulcan salute for “live long and prosper” has already been taken. I’d really prefer something that is simple and discreet.
After a lot of thought, I will place my hand over my heart. If you see this from across the room or from afar, know that it means “solidarity, from one parent to another, carry on”.
I love this idea. I’m going to start doing it today.
We need our own code. This way we are not invasive to someone and yet can
show support.
