A prayer for our family

August 11, 2014 by Mary Leave a Comment

sparrow... a bird in hand
sparrow… a bird in hand

From the blog Two Sparrows and a Crown;

Dear Lord,

Please fill this house with Love and Light,
Protect us as we sleep at night,
By morning be our Will and Might,
Unite us all by Faith in Christ.
Amen.

Another answered prayer was to find a friend in faith.

I’m anxiously awaiting to read what Shorty will write next! No pressure!

Mind your Poodles

August 8, 2014 by Mary Leave a Comment

This is exactly how one has to persevere when they have a learning disability! You may not see the results now, you may have to wait years  to see how it all comes together.

  • “I propose a new word, one that means an obstacle to be overcome eventually, through consistent and diligent application of aids that, while they will absolutely not, under any circumstances, achieve the desired result today, will eventually work, and the rider just needs to have faith and get a grip and keep plugging away at it and, when she’s seriously considering quitting and taking up alpaca farming instead, she should remember that the real solution is five-or-so years of this and that there’s nothing she can really do to expedite the process anyway.”

Prayer answered

August 4, 2014 by Mary Leave a Comment

Prayer is just amazing. I love when I witness God’s hand in answered prayer.

When I don't have an answer, I don't look down, I look up.
When I don’t have an answer, I don’t look down, I look up.

Last night I was feeling discouraged. Over a period of time, when I shared an opinion that had been shaped by experience, another parent would say “that is not so”.  I’m not going to argue with someone that doesn’t know me and I’m certainly not going to argue with someone who has not experienced what I have. What I find frustrating is when I sense that they are dominating and in turn, territorial.. [Read more…] about Prayer answered

Miracle of therapeutic riding

July 23, 2014 by Mary Leave a Comment

Yes, ponies and horses do have magical qualities. They make the meek brave and the brave become bold. This little girl is very brave. She has a nice seat too!

All about a horse

July 17, 2014 by Mary Leave a Comment

Saugus, CA 1990
Saugus, CA 1990

For the longest time, it was all about a horse. It didn’t matter which horse, it could be this horse or that horse, it really didn’t matter.  My family didn’t understand. To them, I might as well have been speaking in a foreign language.

You’d think this is a stage that you could outgrow. Some people do, but this wasn’t the case for me. I was fortunate to begin riding when I was 12, owned my first horse at 14 and by 15, I was pretty serious. Without telling anyone, I arranged to take lessons at Hunterdon with George Morris. I was the only ‘backyard” kid in our lessons. The rest were showing at the Big “A” shows in their custom boots, riding their fancy horses. I wasn’t envious. He was very supportive and never made me feel like I didn’t belong. After my first lesson, I rode in a small but competitive local horse show and won champion in the Equitation division. I’ll never forget, after jumping a perfect round (I know it was good because it was the first time I heard applause), the girl that came in second (she had just qualified for Medal/McClay) yelled, “who is number 113?”. She was shocked to see it was me. As for Hunterdon, I lessoned every other week. It took me two-weeks of odd jobs to earn enough to pay for the lesson and shipping. It was a summer I will always remember fondly. [Read more…] about All about a horse

The silver lining

July 16, 2014 by Mary Leave a Comment

the darker the cloud, the more spectacular the silver lining
the darker the cloud, the more spectacular the silver lining, These clouds were directly over my head, couldn’t be missed. Glory is all around us, we just need to raise our heads to find it.

My belief is that every cloud has a silver lining. The darker the cloud, the more spectacular the light can be. The rays of light are our sign that we indeed will get through the challenges that have been placed before us.
