I’ve been called a lot of things but “model” is not one of them.
I’m not this kind of model
but, the thing is,
when it comes to AAC, anyone can be a model!
You can model together.
You can model when they aren’t looking
You can model when they don’t appear to be listening
and on an AAC device, they can model to themselves while they explore.
While the definition of modeling is “someone that provides an excellent example” as to how it should be done, don’t let this intimidate you. In time, modeling becomes natural. The likelihood that you are learning to model as you go is high, but keep in mind, skills improve with use.
Bottom line? Well, it’s model, model, model of course!
